  • the one about its starting to look like christmas...

Just a short update because I have a dissertation to get back to and I am trying to finish the bulk of it by tonight.

Two things made my day today (which is actually yesterday because this post is a day late); my new hair extensions and my wee christmas tree. First of all I am so happy with my new hair because I've always wanted long long hair and I reckon my 18 inch extensions are just the right length. On the plus side the extensions cost much less then what a hair cut would have cost. Although this does not solve the problem of me still needing the haircut.

new hair! (notice how i sit just beside the heater..haha)
    excuse the vain-ness...

Secondly, I got a tiny 3ft christmas tree. And when I say tiny I really mean tiny. But at least it creates a nice festive atmosphere in my flat.

    joy to the world!

I have alot planned for the next few weeks and I for one cannot wait for my submission to be over with and for my holidays to start!

    Coming up on my blog:
My favourite songs and movies of the year no wait the decade & my recent field trip to Munich & Eichstatt. Stay tuned.

  • the one about new books...

Thanks to Borders closing down sale (tragic really) I am now the proud owner of three new books, two novels & one travel guide. The other book was purchased in Munich, and of all place the BMW Welt (showroom) which had a pretty decent gift shop with an impressive selection of architecture books. On the note of Borders closing down, I am really upset. Its my favourite store in Glasgow for several reasons; its open till late, it has a nice starbucks, you can read for free, the 2 for 1 deals and lastly- paperchase which has the best stationary selection ever.

Lisa See's Peony in Love, which according to the Guardian you will like if you loved the Memoirs of a Geisha.
    Rani Manicka's Touching Earth
501 Great Days Out in The UK & Ireland (yay!)

    &

Yes Is More, an archicomic on architectural evolution.

Also, to be honest I am pretty disappointed because I didn't read as much this year as I did the year before (finishing the twilight series in 3 days does not count- I only read those to please my sister). I think its because last year I was without internet for a good two months which gave me plenty of time to read. So I think for 2010, my resolution will be to read more (although technically I do not believe in resolutions to start with, but what the heck).

  • the one my two most wanted BAGS ever....

meet Mulberry's Alexa bag.. I don't believe in love at first sight but with this bag, I do!

    bag & alexa

I saw this bag (which as the name suggests was inspired by Alexa Chung) online a few months ago and since then I can't stop thinking about how this ONE bag more then any another bag in the history of the universe needs to be in my wardrobe. Now I just need to find a way to make it mine when it arrives at Mulberry in January. Sadly even if I save all my money, I still won't be able to get it because its always bills over bags. One day, one day. It doesn't help that the Mulberry shop is two minutes away from where I stay. So near but so far. Sigh.

I wish if I had this bag I would be happy for the rest of my life. But it won't because.........

I still also want a Chanel 2.55! Now if I had these two bags then yes I will be happy and content (bag wise which for me is a very big deal) for the rest of my life. With regards to the Chanel it can be the Chanel 2.55 reissue or the Chanel Classic flap (normal or jumbo size). I am not fussy. However in an ideal world I would have three; the classic flap in black, the 2.55 reissue in grey & the classic jumbo in black. That would be my bag HEAVEN!

    chanel is love!

So there you have it, the two bags I really really need for if not my life as we not would not be complete! If anyone would like to donate (haha) to my bag fund, I have set up a pay pal account for you to do so. Only kidding.

    Ok back to dreaming work.

Noticeable absent from the list is the Hermes Birkin, because I believe the waiting list for that bag is 10 years. Which is around the same time I wish to get married, which is why my proposal must include a 2 carat diamond ring and Birkin!

  • the one about christmas lights fireworks…

fireworks @ george square & city chambers

You are probably sick of seeing so many fireworks pictures, but just to bad. As today marks the start of advent, the big Christmas Tree in Glasgow’s main square was lit up and there were fireworks to go along with it. I have to say that compared to the Guy Fawkes Day fireworks, these were more impressive. Boris reckons its because you have to pay for tickets (for the tree lighting ceremony that is). These photos were taken from my apartment rooftop where I had a great view of the display and didn’t have to pay a pence.

Anyhow with project finals coming up, nothing eventful has been happening of late and its been studio work, studio work and more studio work. And then I have a day break and I’m off to Germany for my uni field trip. The good news is that Christmas holidays are just around the corner (and the I will complain that I am bored! haha). Wish me luck.

  • the one about my new workspace

    (yes more procrastination)

At first I had no proper desk or workspace in my flat (which saw me jumping from coffee table to dining table to floor) until one fine day  Boris saw a computer table in the lobby with a sign attached to it saying ‘take me I’m free’. So naturally being an ah pek, he took it larr. There was nothing wrong with the computer table but because a neighbour was moving out she just decided to give her computer table away for free. Boris was planning to keep the table for himself, but I guess he got lazy to move his stuff so I decided to give the table away to Nicholas instead. BUT in the end I ended up keeping it for myself (this was after I found out the table was originally worth £50 and Boris’s computer table is only £12). So now I have a nice ‘new’ table next to my bookshelf. The only thing that is bugging me is that the table’s finish does not match the black chrome bookshelf. But I guess beggars can’t be choosers.

  • the one about modern warfare 2...

In case you don’t already know, on Monday night I stood in line and waited in the cold mind you for some game (Modern Warfare II) which was to be released at midnight. Obviously the game was not for me but for Boris, duh. We went for dinner & a movie first (Michael Jackson’s This Is It which I really enjoyed) and when the movie finished at around 11.15 we made our way to the shop. Boris told me earlier that 200 people had pre-ordered the game so I was expecting people to be lining outside, but with 45 minutes left to midnight, I didn’t expect the line to be this long. Crazy! And the lined doubled after we got there, and because they were only letting a small number of people into the store we had to wait and wait and then wait some more.

    a) I didn’t even know games had sequels

    b) This game must have been a big deal because 4 shops along Suchiehall Street had midnight openings just for this game

    c) There were tons of nerds + geeks actually waiting in line for the game. Few younger boys actually cycled over (in first place the game as has over 18 rating so they shouldn’t be buying the game)

    d) The man who stood in front of us just wouldn’t stop talking about the game. He just went on and on and on.

    e) Also, I got death stares when I took out my Ipod Touch to play Bejewel while waiting.

    f) And in case you were wondering why Boris could not order the game online and have it delivered or just buy the game in the morning, it was because then he would have lost out on several levels while other got a head start.

    g) There were several people from our apartment that also went to go get the game, cause  we saw them walking back the same time as us.

waiting for the release of MW II

And finally after waiting and standing and freezing, we made it into the store and Boris got his hands on the much awaited game, effectively ending him doing any work for his studio.

What Boris doesn’t know yet is that on Saturday morning (and super early) I am going to make him accompany me while I too wait in line for the release of the Jimmy Choo for H&M collection.

  • the one about remember remember the 5th of november..

So again, like last year (read it here!) and the year before that, I made my way to Glasgow Green to watch the fireworks on Guy Fawkes Day. There was a whole bunch of us that went, the usual Malaysian & Singaporean bunch, the half Greek/now half Malaysian (that would be Ellie) + her almost 'leng chai' and Agatha who is Polish and just transferred to Strathclyde from Aberdeen. Fireworks were followed by dinner and later a visit to the beer cafe for beers (not me) and some jazz music.

  • the one about halloween..

Nic, Pei Fun & Kum Tak hosted a Halloween party at their new flat and invited a bunch of us over. Only it turned out to be quite a big bunch of us in the end because the guest list just kept growing and growing. And I really shouldn’t complain because I invited Jenny, Isa, Idris, Rathika & Sham…but never mind that. The more the merrier, right? Anyway, it was a great night (the part that didn’t rain and involved us first waiting for a cab and then having to walk in the rain because the cab driver dropped us at no.325 and not at no.255). However, I really am not a big fan of Halloween at all or dressing up in costume for that matter. And plus I was so busy that I left my costume until the very day of the party itself (as mentioned it was raining so I had to frantically shop in the rain looking for something to wear for the party- not amused). But in the end, I think everyone enjoyed themselves, so yay! I took very few photos that night and didn’t manage to take a picture with everyone unlike boris who is a photo slut and posed with just about everyone. Here goes:
